The Portland Collection is Welbeck Abbey’s historic collection of fine and decorative art amassed by the Dukes of Portland and, since March 2016, beautifully displayed in the new Harley Gallery. Our guided tour will focus on highlights of the collection which include Michelangelo’s Madonna del Silenzio; The Portland Tiara by Cartier; and George Stubbs’s painting of the 3rd Duke on horseback.

After free time to explore the contemporary Harley Gallery we move on to Renishaw Hall, home of the Sitwell family for nearly 400 years. Following lunch our guided tour will look at the fine and decorative arts including works by John Piper, a fine Chippendale commode (companion to the superb piece at Harewood), and a Sargent painting of the Edwardian Sitwells. Time to explore the gardens, weather permitting.

£54, includes coach transport; all admissions and tours; two-course lunch

Pick-up points: Wetherby (Mercure Hotel) at 08.25; Roundhay Park (old tram terminus) at 08.45; Leeds (Aire Street) at 09.10. Return to Leeds for approximately 6pm.
