Conserving the George Pyke clock
One of the great treasures of Temple Newsam is the musical clock and automaton by George Pyke. Made c1765, and traditionally said to have been at the Tuileries Palace, Paris, it had ceased to work over 15 years ago. Recently funding was secured for its complete restoration and conservation - and after more than a year at West Dean Conservation Workshops it has now returned to Temple Newsam fully restored.
Malcolm Archer, Senior Conservator at West Dean College, will give a talk and demonstration.
