Catch Up with Lotherton Hall

Thursday 12th May 2022

10:00 - 12:45
£10, Includes tea/coffee

A morning at Lotherton to focus on recent acquisitions.

Curator Adam Toole will give a short talk about the recent LAF funded purchase of CR Ashbee's beautiful silver ladle. Originally owned by Arthur and Helen Currer Briggs, their committment to various progressive social causes and their local profile makes their wider support for the ethical philosophy of the Arts and Crafts Movemement particularly interesting. (Arthur was `a local colliery owner and became Lord Mayor of Leeds in 1903-4).

To be followed by a study session looking at highlights of the Wingfield Collection, led by Stephanie Davies (Assistant Community Curator) and Caroline Newton (Assistant Curator). The collection includes a fascinating range of letters, diaries, photographs, silver and other ephemera and was donated by the Wingfield family, who were in-laws of the Gascoignes of Lotherton Hall.

Stephanie and Caroline will explain how the collection is being contextualised with the help of volunteers, in preparation for a forthcoming exhibition to bring new insights into the lives of the Gascoigne family.

We will meet at Lotherton at 10.00am, tea/coffee included in the ticket price.
